Rationing Water is a Thing of the Past for Remote Charter Fishing Fleet
Casa Vieja Lodge Anglers enjoy endless water thanks to Blue Water Desalination
There comes a point in every captain and boat owner’s career where a piece of equipment that once was seen as a luxury becomes a straight-up necessity. Captain David Salazar, owner/operator of the Casa Vieja Fishing Lodge in Guatemala, recently reached that tipping point with the water supplies aboard several of his fleet’s custom sportfish boats. Captain Salazar explains, “With only so many gallons in the freshwater tanks, we were literally rationing water gallon-by-gallon during our day and overnight fishing trips.”
Blue Water Desalination’s Managing Director, Jim Santa has known Captain Salazar for many years, so it was an easy decision for Salazar to seek out Jim’s advice on equipping the fleet with marine watermakers. “I’ve known Jim for a long time, and our friendship definitely played a role in choosing Blue Water, but the quality and advanced features of the products helped seal the deal,” he explained. Innovative Water Systems Prevent Contamination & Provide Ultra-Pure Water
Blue Water Desalination (BWD) debuted their latest technologies in water systems specifically designed for the marine market at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November of 2015.
BWD’s industry-leading Clear-Mate Fresh Water Reverse Osmosis System utilizes the same technology as the Blue Water Desalination sea water reverse osmosis systems to provide ultra-pure water. The water produced from the Clear-Mate removes up to 99% of the total dissolved solids leaving little residue when it dries and a virtually spot-free surface. Notable product features include low power consumption, quiet operation, and optional pH neutralizer filter. Available in 2,000 and 3,000 gallon per day capacities, the Clear-Mate is offered in two configurations:
“Double Pass” system with an integral tank that can be fed directly from your sea water reverse osmosis system to produce ultra-pure product water
Standard system that can be fed from dock water or the boat’s water storage tank
The April/May issue of Professional BoatBuilder magazine – while always being a good and highly informative read for all things innovative in boating – includes a call-out to our two newest water maker models: the Legend LX and Express XT. The following is from Professional BoatBuilder’s New Products and Processes Section:
Blue Water Desalination (Long Beach, CA) introduces the Legen LX and the Express XT fully automatic watermakers. The Legend LX, for megayachts and commercial applications up to 141 gallons per hour, features a 7″ full-color icon-driven touchscreen controller that continuously monitors system operation to maximize water production and quality. The Express XT, designed for small to mid-size yachts, features convenient one-touch operation with capacities of up to 33 gallons per hour. Both are available in compact and modular configurations.
The Ship’s Systems feature of the latest issue of Marlin Magazine (March ’15) covers the brilliance of having an on board watermaker that uses reverse osmosis technology to turn salty sea water into pure potable water that is actually cleaner than most municipal and dock water supplies!
The World’s Largest Watering Hole
With a Watermaker, the Ocean Becomes a Limitless Supply of Freshwater
Once considered an extravagant option aboard a sport-fishing boat, watermakers are pretty much standard equipment today, with many boats even utilizing two units. Having a steady supply of potable water to shower, cook, live aboard and wash the boat with at the end of the day is a huge benefit. Converting salt water to fresh via the reverse-osmosis process gives you virtually mineral-free water, so it is far less damaging to topcoat finishes and Isinglass curtains than city or dock water. It’s also better for ice machines and the entire freshwater system. (more…)
